E used to dedicate 'Skywriting to Elliott Smith', I remember this moment from a bootleg:

E: alright, this is a song called 'Skwyriting', I want to dedicate this to our friend Elliott.

(E starts playing)

(stops)

E: Who took my cheat sheet?

One of you fuckers right here... give it back!

I gotta read the fucking lyrics, alright?

Give me the goddamn piece of paper!

Goddammit!

My adrenaline is really pumping now!

You know what?

You can do this to me anytime, but you can't do this to Elliott!

I will fucking...

Who has that piece of paper? you're gonna burn in hell, whoever you are!

enjoy it!

enjoy your time in hell!

for eternity!

yeah!

that's right!

(............)

(E laughs)

I'm sorry, where were we? :)

what E-Man said :)
I can confirm that 'The Good Old Days' was played live once, one of the final shows of the 2003 tour in the USA alongside a couple of other rarities: Skywriting and Altar Boy (with Rickie Lee Jones). This was posted on the official site back then (I have a pretty good memory for that sort of thing :))

edit: setlist.fm says it was played in Australia, so it may have been played multiple times

On this website http://www.setlist.fm/stats/eels-bd6e59a.html there are a few more titles to be found that are supposedly just played once or a few times, like "when Irish eyes are smiling?" Does anybody know how reliable that site is?

It's a wiki, so when a song only appeared once doubts can be cast.
(for instance, there's a 2011 setlist that mentions 'In The Yard, Behind The Church' and 'Son of a Bitch', but these songs never appeared in other sets).

I also once read a whole lot about some demo's of which lots of unknown titles were found. The source of this was a website which listed songs that were deposited. I can't remember a lot about it (it was a discussion years ago on some predecessor of estranged friends perhaps), but I remember that there were one or two songs on it written with or for Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles and also a song about Marilyn Monroe. Is there someone here who remembers something about this?
I remember this too, as I recall it was some sort of copyright administration archive. wouldn't know how to find it back though..

EELS In Performance (spoilers) / Re: Paradiso 3 April 2013

so I've deducted that Climbing to the Moon was played (probably in the 'In My Dreams'/'That Look You Give That Guy' slot), and 'Stick Together' was the lights-up encore. Does anybody know the full setlist?

well, I enjoyed the rehearsal footage.
also the footage from the Werchter 2011 'love explosion' :)
there's some audience recordings on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybl2HoepB3A for example), but as far as I know the full performance hasn't surfaced yet.

looks like you had a good time, too bad I didn't run in to you guys. I did run in to Colin on both nights, I was just telling him the roadies were already loading up the gear and there was no way there was going to be another encore when I heard the intro to 'Dog Faced Boy' and E walked back on stage.. so much for my credibility :)

So who was there on the 3rd? does anyone know the setlist?
setlists for the 1st and 2nd are on setlist.fm: http://www.setlist.fm/search?query=eels

p.s. E-man, if you're still out there, someone stole you domain name:
check www.eels.nl (lol)

the chorus is Bb C Am Dm

I think you may be right!

for 'Ugly Love', check the previous page and transpose half a step down, Fm Gb Db etc.
I'll have to get back to that 2-year-old request for 'Mass' :)

Can't Help Falling In Love:

G D Em Em
wise men say
C G D D
only fools rush in
C D Em C G D G G
but I can't help falling in love with you

shall I stay
would it be a sin
if I can't help falling in love with you

D Em
like a river flows
D Em
surely to the sea
D Em
darling so it goes
G D
some things were meant to be

take my hand
take my whole life too
for I can't help falling in love with you

Once you know the chords it's easy to figure out the patterns, it's mostly single bass notes with the left hand and three-note chords with the right hand:
G --> D G B
D --> F# A
Em --> B E G etc.

Tremendous Dynamite 2011 Tour (spoilers) / Re: Rock Werchter 2011

that look you give that guy - werchter
including the i feel like a beatle

WOW, this is truly amazing. This video makes me feel happy for E and the band. Especially the reaction of the crowd from 3:10 onwards....  :)

Thanks for posting.

This is great.
the crowd already starts going wild at 1:30, and you can see E's surprise.

somehow this reminds me of back in the 1900's when I first got to know Eels, I was burning mix CD's for random people because I felt everybody was missing out on the best band in the world. Sadly, my appreciation was not shared by many. This is the most enthusiastic crowd-reaction to Eels I've ever seen, and he really does deserve it.

Tremendous Dynamite 2011 Tour (spoilers) / Re: Setlists
« on: June 29, 2011, 06:16:40 PM »
something else I found interesting:
E used to rearrange the songs he would play live entirely, but this tour almost all arrangements are very close to the album versions (which is unusual in its own way). To my knowledge the 'Novocaine for the Soul' intro has never been played that way live before, 'Grace Kelly Blues' and 'Packing Blankets' return to their Eels Orchestra state, the pre-choruses in 'P.S. You Rock My World' have returned to how they sound on ESB, even Flyswatter has the same feel it has on DOTG even though it lacks the celeste.
Last Stop: This Town is one of the exceptions, but this arrangement is the exact same as the one from 2003.

I miss eels.nl...
judging from setlist.fm, the rotations in the set appear to be I'm Going To Stop Pretending/That's Not Her Way, Climbing To The Moon/Love of the Loveless and It's A Motherfucker/Last Stop: This Town. So where do 'Son of a Bitch' and 'In the yard behind the church fit in? have they been scrapped altogether?
