By the way, I like your blog.

Thanks. I kind of stopped using it after moving it to a new location. It's been pretty neglected. I think I'm going to start fresh later this year after I move overseas.

About Sufjan - Illinois is a very good introduction if you don't know where to start; it's probably his most popular album and very accessible. Age of Adz is for the most part a completely different style and takes a large stride in the electronic direction but in my mind its some of his best work, just not what he is best known for (yet).

Planet Sufjan was A-MAH-ZING. I had pretty high expectations and yet they were still exceeded. I know 2011 only just started but it will be a hard feat for any other act to top that performance this year.

Two hours of apocalyptic, psychedelic genius. The Age of Adz is already amazing as an album but it was a whole other experience live.

Plus he displayed illustrations by Royal Robertson as a visual backdrop during a lot of the songs (the cover art on the album is also by Royal). They complemented each other perfectly.

I hope you mean the dream and not the baby!

I have to ask: was it a boy or a girl?

I take it as a compliment that I made it into your subconscious  8)

Sufjan Stevens - this Thursday!!!! Can't wait, keep playing age of adz in anticipation. It's completely sold out, it's going to be so great.
Joanna Newsom - March
Belle and Sebastian - March
Ben Folds - May

Then hopefully lots of gigs in Belgium in the last half of the year  :D

Haha. Well we didn't really have a choice a few years ago, it had to be Australia because I needed to finish my degree. I always said that when I graduated we would go and live in Belgium for at least a few years so that I would get to know his family and friends better and also become immersed in the culture and language. Plus now I plan to do an extra year of study over there in EU law.

But you know, that's all a ruse really. I think you know I'm in it for the gigs.

...

And the chocolate. And the snow. And the close proximity of a myriad of travel destinations. You get the point.

Nice job!

As Niels said I'm learning dutch at the moment but I'm sure you're better than me as I'm not very good. Have you seen this site?

You can email them and get a printable pdf of a grammar book for only 3,75 euros. It's basically all their grammar sections in one handy file. I got mine printed and bound today and even after what that cost, its still a damn sight cheaper than buying a textbook and it's very useful (though the pronunciation part is quite hollandic).

Also I've joined their forum where you can practice your dutch and have people show you the corrections, swap hints for learning, have conversations etc. It's a really good resource.

Wow, I don't post for a few months and the board acquires tumbleweeds. I really must be the central linchpin my avatar comment has always suggested  :P

Thing that I like: GreatMistake and I bought one way tickets to Belgium and are moving to live there in July. Eeeeeeeep!

Wow, that second last paragraph... :o

Just when you think the management can't look any worse, they rise to the occasion.

It must feel pretty personal Berni but I would try to let it slide off your back if you can. They've just made themselves look like fools, not you.

Thanks for all the years of hard work Bini.

 ;D

What can I say, it was a hard slog...but I persevered, slaving away for the benefit of eels fans everywhere.

Heh.

No but really, sorry to hear that Berni. I can relate to the disillusionment.

I just finished the last exams of my degree, and should right now be ecstatic in the feeling that I am finally finished after 6 long years....BUT....my most important final exam was a disaster. ABSOLUTE disaster.

The lecturer who wrote it is a total sadist; takes joy in watching students suffer. I did all the practice exams from past years and this one was really 10 times harder.

I am crossing my fingers that scaling will get me through.

Funny you should mention that. Niels and I are going to a play of The Trial on Friday night. He won free tickets  :)
