Alex Chilton of Big Star is dead.

Big Star were a huge influence on the likes of Elliott Smith, Graham Coxon, The Replacements and many other artists.
Big Star's Thirteen is one of the most beautiful songs I know.

Same here, I like Big Star and I also love The Posies. Too bad I never saw the Big Star with 2 Posies line-up in concert.
The one time they played The Netherlands for a change I was on the other side of the Atlantic...

I remember when Eels had their 13 on the setlist in 1996/1997 a lot of people figured it was a cover of Big Stars Thirteen (which of course it wasn't), and that goes to show too little people actually know Big Star's work. I think Chilton will be most remembered for his work with The Box Tops in the late sixties. The Letter is what you'd call 'a classic'.
September Gurls (by Big Star) should be a classic too!

Yep I love Big Star...very sad. Though I always felt Chris Bell was the better talent in that band.

"Cry Like a Baby" is a good song. Never listened to Big Star, though. :(
