I've never been one for giving individual marks for tracks,
what i will say as a i say to friends who have not heard this album,
in my humble opinion, it's the greatest double album i've heard.
The day is coming when you'll have to think of it,
was it really worth it, all that shit

I tried to listen BLAOR that way but I couldn´t. I have to give all songs 5 stars. I´m pretty sure E could have whipped up a 14 song killer album from this pile. Hell, he could have whipped up 33 song killer album if he wanted to, he just wanted to have some other stuff in between. Some songs will get 5+, like "Suicide Life", "In The Yard Behind The Church",  "Old Shit/New Shit", "Ugly Love", Sweet Lil Thing" etc. I try to come up with song by song stars but it will be boring. Far too many *****´s.

Too bad that this topic was destroyed with far too large scan of retarded dusty classic rock. I thought people discussed real art here.
and that´s how I felt

Besmirch them again and I'll post an album cover in every thread you post in again. Take this one as a warning.  :)

edit: I haven't posted it again, below, but made it my signature  8)

every single song on BLAOR gets a 5/5 from me, except for going fetal. this and ESB are tied for my favorite eels album.

i'll spare you the reasons why i love 32 of the 33 songs and get down to the one that i don't like.

going fetal sounds like a b-side from daisies to the galaxy or something, and not in a good way. it sounds like the theme song to a nickelodeon cartoon. the lyrics are amusing at first glance but they kind of lose their humor if you've heard it more than once. it's very disappointing that this has been the only collaboration between tom waits and eels.

ok i'll give you the longer version of my opinion instead of my snarky one-liner.

i do not enjoy led zeppelin's music and i find them boring - i liked them when i was a teenager and when i had less musical awareness. your analogy is correct to me, but not in a positive way. led zeppelin and the beatles both took better music that preceded them and watered the essences of the genre down for a wider audience and wider consumption. led zeppelin did that with blues and rock music, and the beatles did that with pop and rock music. they made their respective genres less exciting. neither the beatles nor led zeppelin did anything first, neither one of them, despite both bands getting recognition as being innovators or trailblazers. they were copies.

led zeppelin are guilty of stealing at least a dozen songs and lifting the riffs or lyrics directly without giving credit to the original artist. the beatles did not do this, to my knowledge.

for what it's worth, i like a good handful of beatles songs. "i'll follow the sun" and "and i love her" are great songs. so no mr. j i don't blindly hate the beatles

Don't care about Led Zep. But The Beatles watering the essence of the genre... wait a minute. What genre are we talking about here? Beat music? Rock 'n' Roll? And most of all: which Beatles period are you refering to?

It's right that they took what other people did before them - like, um, every musician does - but from 1966 onwards, they took it to a whole new level. "Revolver" turned the pop album into an art form instead of singles collections. Nobody really cared for albums before that. Of course, The Beatles didn't do everything right, I'm not a blind follower. I don't really like the Sgt. Pepper's album for instance.

And about their earlier stuff I can't think of any band at the time that did it better. The Kinks' early albums sucked (later they became good enough to compete with the Fab Four), Stones needed a lot of time to get their act straight too, guys like Herman's Hermits or The Monkees you couldn't take seriously. The Byrds kinda started as a Dylan cover band... This has nothing to do with The Beatles doing something "first" but simply with Lennon and McCartney being brilliant songwriters.

What's the point with doing things first, anyway? Are Elliott Smith's albums any worse, just because he totally ripped of The Beatles' harmonies in his vocals? No, they aren't. They are brilliant albums. He took what he loved and made it his own. That's the way pop music works most of the time.

That said, I'd be very curious to know which acts The Beatles copied who did it better, in your opinion. I'll give you Buddy Holly.

for what it's worth, i like a good handful of beatles songs. "i'll follow the sun" and "and i love her" are great songs. so no mr. j i don't blindly hate the beatles
Is not what I was implying, by the way. Just knew you're not very fond of them.
